II. Along the Mountains
All eyes search the skies
For the more reclusive sun...
Winter crawls along the mountains
Icicles forming like frozen tears
No human soul can stave off the cold
That’s come to thieve away all cheer
A yuletide season, bleak and bleary
With no way to warm our bones
Only the sound of a growing gray fury
Surrounding disheartened homes
Misery sown in drifts of snow
And a stark range of naked trees
Stir craze to dark charade
Too withered and worn to go on
Every furnace lays empty
And the odds of our survival seem dim...
Unless there is someone so bold
To venture past the gates of old
Who is so brave?
Who's so pompous?
Face the Hell Fairy one must
To stoke the fire!
III. To Stoke the Fire
The hedgehog rears his bristled head
And scoffing at the chill in the air
He goes forth to seek out the Gates
And the spirit that awaits him there
Self-assured and with no fear
All snarl and spine
A rapier wit, the hero of the hedge
He’s one of a kind
A yawn across the Hell Fairy’s face
As she stirs in her eternal slumber
Reveling in the warmth of the flames
Down in the realm of the salamander
Unaware and blithely indifferent
A heart as dark as coal
Straitlaced mistress of the fire
No one could ever goad
The hedgehog finds his hellish foe at last
Armed to the teeth with a solemn persistence
Rousing the fairy from languid sleep he starts
To taunt away with unwavering insistence
Rising up in a swirling cloud of smoke
The fairy’s still far from rage
“You’ll have to do much better that that!” she cries
Who will win today?
IV. Taunting the Hell Fairy
instrumental
V. The People Rejoice
The hedgehog returns in triumphant pride and glory
As he boldly strides from the burning Gates of Hell
He alone dared
To venture where none would ever dream
Incited the jealous fiend, and he did it so well
Now there's heat
For every home
And new hope
For every woe
The people rejoice in waves of exhilaration
Feeling alive again with the new day that’s dawning
All the fallen snow and ice recedes and disappears
While embers rekindle
The fires once more begin to sing
In the stoves
Of young and old
And with all set right
The hedgehog turns and goes
